Barry is principally a landscape painter who works in oil - both in plein air and from his studio in Mount Barker, in the heart of the Great Southern's Mountain Country. The area is a treasure which inspires much of his work.

A founding member of the Mountain Country Art collective, Barry is also the Coordinator of the Art Chatter Gallery in Mt Barker and a member of the West Australian Society of Arts.

Barry conducts “Oil Painting for Beginners Courses” from his studio as well as workshops and demonstrations to a wide variety of groups.

In collaboration with his long time friend, poet Warren Edgar-Gillespie, Barry has recently published a book of his paintings titled “Portraits of Landscapes”. Each of the paintings is accompanied by poetry written by Warren as well as a CD of the poems recited by their author.
